Short answer

Error code 92 is the first warning that the built-in condensate neutralizer in a Noritz condensing heater is near the end of its effective life. Noritz says the neutralizer must be replaced periodically; the replacement part is SKD7466, and the neutralizer timer is reset after the new one goes in.

Condensing tankless heaters produce acidic condensate. A neutralizer raises its pH closer to neutral before it drains, protecting drains and pipes. Some Noritz models have the neutralizer built in, with a timer that tracks its life. Code 92 is the heads-up that it is almost used up.

The meaning below comes from Noritz's own technical knowledge base. Noritz technical support: 866-766-7489.

What to do

  1. Order the replacement neutralizer. Noritz lists part number SKD7466 for affected models.
  2. Have it replaced and the timer reset, following the instructions that come with the part.

Code 92 is a warning, not a shutdown. If it is ignored, the heater moves on to code 93.

Which models

Noritz lists models including the N-0841M, N-0842M, NRC111 and NCC199 series.

Is it a DIY job?

Replacing a neutralizer is routine maintenance. Handy homeowners can often do it with the unit powered off and the manual in hand, but the timer reset has to be done correctly. If you are not comfortable, add it to an annual service visit.

Before you call

Have the model and serial number from the rating label ready, along with the exact code and when it appears: at startup, during use, or only at high demand. Mention any recent work on the gas, water or electrical supply and when the heater was last serviced. This helps the technician bring the right parts and often saves a second visit.
