How to check an Arizona plumber's license

Plumbing contractors in Arizona are licensed by the Arizona Registrar of Contractors (ROC). License numbers are six digits, and the ROC's contractor search shows whether a license is active and which classification it covers. The ROC issues separate residential, commercial and dual licenses, so make sure the classification fits a home job.

The ROC requires a license bond, but it does not require general liability insurance (workers' compensation aside). Ask the company for proof of insurance before work starts.

Plumbing problems Phoenix homeowners call about

Valley water is hard, and the minerals build up inside water heaters, tankless units and fixtures. Flushing a tank heater and descaling a tankless unit on schedule extends their life. Many Phoenix-area homes are also built on concrete slabs, so learn the signs of a slab leak and ask whether a company does its own leak detection.

Summer heat matters too: a water heater in a hot garage or attic works in harsh conditions, and supply lines in the sun age faster.

What plumbing costs

See our national guides to plumber cost per hour, water heater repair cost and slab leak repair cost before you call, and get the price in writing.

Common questions

Why do Phoenix water heaters wear out faster?

Hard water leaves mineral scale in the tank or heat exchanger. Regular flushing or descaling helps, and a water softener reduces the buildup.

How do I check a Phoenix plumber's license?

Ask for the six-digit ROC number and look it up on the Arizona Registrar of Contractors contractor search. Confirm the status is active and the class covers residential plumbing.
