How to check a Colorado plumber's license
Colorado licenses plumbers at the state level through the Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) and its State Plumbing Board. Individual plumbers hold master, journeyman or residential licenses, and a plumbing business registers as a Plumbing Contractor, which must have a licensed master plumber responsible for its work. DORA's license lookup shows whether a contractor registration is active; a status such as "Need Master Hire" means the company cannot practice until it has one.
Colorado has no statewide general contractor license, so cities such as Denver run their own contractor licensing and permits. Ask your plumber whether the job needs a city permit.
Plumbing problems Denver homeowners call about
Winter is the big one. Cold snaps freeze pipes in exterior walls, crawl spaces and unheated garages, and outdoor faucets left connected to a hose can split inside the wall. The steps to prevent frozen pipes and to winterize outdoor faucets take an afternoon and cost far less than burst pipe repair cost. If a pipe does freeze, here is how to thaw frozen pipes safely.
Many older Denver neighborhoods still have clay or cast iron sewer lines that roots and age have cracked. A sewer camera inspection shows the condition before you pay for repairs.
