Stop the damage first

Close the main water shutoff before you call. For a leaking water heater, close the cold water valve on top and turn off the power or gas. After a storm, do not use drains that are backing up until a plumber checks the line. Our guide to emergency plumber cost explains typical after-hours surcharges.

Common questions

Is it cheaper to wait until morning?

Usually. If you can stop the water and nothing is unsafe, a regular-hours visit tends to cost less.
