How to check a Florida plumber's license
Florida plumbing contractors are licensed by the Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR). A license starting with CFC is a Certified Plumbing Contractor license, valid anywhere in the state. A license starting with RF is a Registered Plumbing Contractor license, valid only in the local areas where the contractor is registered. You can look up any license on the DBPR's Verify a License page and confirm it is current and active.
Hiring a licensed contractor also matters if something goes wrong: Florida's Construction Industries Recovery Fund can compensate homeowners for certain losses caused by licensed contractors, but not by unlicensed ones.
How we narrowed the list
We matched each company's advertised license number to Florida DBPR records. We left out companies whose number belonged to a different business, whose license was inactive, or whose website, address and phone details did not line up.
Plumbing in Miami-Dade
Parts of Miami-Dade still rely on septic tanks rather than city sewer, so ask whether a drain problem could be a septic issue before you book. Heavy summer rain and storm surge can push water back through low drains; a backwater valve on the main line is worth discussing with a plumber. Before hurricane season, find your main water shutoff and make sure it turns.
