Check the license before you book

Ask for the company's Responsible Master Plumber license number. In Texas it starts with M, and you can confirm it on the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners public license search. The board also keeps a certificate of insurance on file for every Responsible Master Plumber, so a current listing there is a good first check.

Permits and your water utility

Replacing a water heater, repiping or repairing a sewer line is usually permitted work in Texas cities, and a licensed plumber normally pulls the permit. Ask whether the permit and inspection are included in the quote. Problems on the public side of your water meter or sewer cleanout are the utility's responsibility, so call the San Antonio Water System if the issue is in the street.

Plumbing problems San Antonio homeowners call about

Many San Antonio homes sit on concrete slabs, where a supply leak can go unnoticed. Learn the signs of a slab leak and ask whether a company does its own leak detection. Older neighborhoods with original sewer lines see roots and sags; a sewer camera inspection confirms the cause before you pay for a repair.

Hard freezes are rare here, but the February 2021 storm burst pipes across the city. When a freeze is forecast, the steps to prevent frozen pipes take minutes.

What plumbing costs

Our national guides cover plumber cost per hour, water heater repair cost and drain cleaning cost. Always get the price in writing first.
